OK, it sounds like ane of these things is happening:
-- you're non using the correct upload settings when uploading the video file;
-- you're not selecting the HD version of the video to play on YouTube; or,
-- the video file isn't properly encoded prior to upload

For the first one, what options does YouTube give you lot when uploading the video, if whatsoever? Also, it apparently automatically converts all videos to a 16:nine attribute ratio if they aren't already in that format (4:3 vidoes get "pillars" on the left & correct sides).

For the second one, understand that (like Facebook) YouTube past default shows a lower quality video, unless y'all cull to picket a higher quaility version. Even videos that are uploaded at 720p or 1080p resolution, by default, will testify upward as either 320p or 480p. You can nonetheless watch the higher-resolution video, but you take to manually select that version (if it's bachelor). Click on the gear icon & select the quality that you want.

For the final one, effort:

Appears to have recommended video/audio & format encoding settings to use for the video file before uploading it to YouTube.

Cheers for the reply, I went to that link, and I have a question most it.

At one part it says

Video codec: H.264

Progressive scan (no interlacing)
High Profile
2 sequent B frames
Closed GOP. GOP of half the frame rate.
CABAC
Variable bitrate. No bitrate limit required, though we offer recommended bit rates below for reference
Chroma subsampling: 4:2:0

how would I check if my video has progressive browse, high profile, two sequent B frames, etc.?

Depends on the source of the file. If it was created past conversion from another file format (i.e. converting from AVI to WMV), then you would want to check the settings in the conversion program. If it was created from another device (i.e. digital photographic camera, digital video recorder, etc.), you tin cheque the manual for the file specifications it uses, or bank check on the vendor's back up page. If it was created by a screenshot programme (i.e. AMD's Raptr), the Assistance file or transmission should have the file specifications there.

There might likewise be some programs out there that tin analyze a file & determine what its settings are, merely I don't really do video editing, and then it'due south starting to get out of my areas of expertise. However, the iClarify site (which is apparenlty a program for Macs that can scan a file) said that GSpot can be used on Windows PCs in place of iClarify.

I had the same trouble today with my uploaded videos on Youtube.

They were non in 1080p & I could only watch them in 720p.

I found out it was a Chrome extension that was bugging the channel called (Magic deportment for YouTube) & how I stock-still information technology was, I deleted the Magic actions for YouTube extension.

Then, I added the extension back to Chrome without irresolute the Enable Auto HD & Force player type settings.

At present my videos are dorsum at 1080p.

YouTube compresses all of their videos regardless of the resolution. Y'all can improve the quality by rendering it out in 1440p or higher so uploading information technology, because all of those videos get a improve codec, called VP9, which will look better fifty-fifty on the lower resolution settings. And, 1440p+ also get higher bitrate from YouTube. You can find the codec of any video you are watching past right clicking => Stats for nerds. Usually information technology will say something similar vp9 or avc1.XXXX.

The made my 1080p recorded motorcycle videos look much better. I could record in 4K only it uses up too much memory and battery on my Sony FDR X3000 and HDR AS300s. The 1080p video looks great when I return at 1920x1080 15MPS bitrate but when I upload to youtube it can get blurry. From at present on in I will render my 1080p videos at 4k and upload to Youtube.
